Contraindications

Certain situations temporarily or permanently contraindicate Aesthetic or Laser procedures. This page summarises the main contraindications. It does not replace a medical consultation, during which your situation will be assessed individually.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy and breastfeeding are absolute contraindications to Aesthetic Medicine and Laser Treatments. No exception will be made, even early in pregnancy.

Conditions and medical treatments

  • Coagulation disorders, anticoagulant therapy
  • Photosensitising treatments (certain antibiotics, anti-inflammatories)
  • Active inflammatory diseases (psoriasis, eczema, lupus)
  • Local skin infections (herpes, fungal infection, impetigo) on the area to be treated
  • History of keloid or hypertrophic scarring
  • Auto-immune conditions in active flare-up

Implanted devices

The presence of a pacemaker, an implantable defibrillator or any other electronic device may contraindicate certain treatments. It is essential to disclose this before any consultation.

Sun exposure and photosensitivity

Laser Treatments and certain Aesthetic Treatments are contraindicated on tanned skin or in cases of recent sun exposure (less than 4 weeks). UV beds are also prohibited before and after a Laser treatment.

Minors

Aesthetic procedures are generally not recommended for minors, except for duly justified medical indications and with written parental authorisation. General Medicine and medical Laser Treatments (inflammatory acne, for example) may be performed under conditions.

Patient declaration

You are required to declare all your medical history, current treatments and recent events before any procedure. Incomplete or inaccurate information may compromise your safety.

Dr Mergui reserves the right to decline or postpone a treatment if a contraindication is identified.
