Lumenis AcuPulse: the fractional CO2 laser

A CE- and FDA-cleared medical CO2 laser for skin rejuvenation and scar treatment

In brief

The Lumenis AcuPulse is a complete CO2 laser resurfacing workstation (CE marking, FDA clearance) featuring SuperPulse technology and 11 built-in treatment modes. At Dr Dylan Mergui's practice in Tel Aviv, it is used for skin rejuvenation and the treatment of scars, including surgical scars, by stimulating deep skin renewal with an adjustable precision of 150 to 700 microns.

The technology

How does the Lumenis AcuPulse CO2 laser work?

A so-called "fractional" CO2 laser works by creating microscopic treatment columns in the skin while leaving the surrounding areas intact. This approach triggers a natural healing process and collagen production, without treating the whole surface at once.

Lumenis' SuperPulse technology delivers high peak power in very short pulses: the energy vaporizes the targeted tissue with an excellent ablation-to-coagulation ratio while limiting heat diffusion to neighbouring tissue. In practice, this improves comfort and reduces unwanted thermal effects.

The result: the skin gradually regenerates, gaining firmness and texture quality. Dr Mergui adjusts the mode (superficial, combined or deep), the intensity and the number of sessions according to the area, the goal (rejuvenation or scar) and how your skin responds.

Technologies

The technologies on board

The AcuPulse is a complete workstation: the scanner and the pulse mode are chosen according to the depth and finesse required:

  • SuperPulse (short pulses at high peak power)

Lumenis' signature: penetration of up to 1 mm in a single pulse, with a high ablation-to-coagulation ratio that limits heating of neighbouring tissue and improves recovery.

  • AcuScan120 fractional scanner

The scanner that drives the fractional pattern: a superficial mode (150 to 200 microns) for texture and radiance, a deep mode (up to 700 microns) for scars and marked wrinkles, and a combined mode.

  • Continuous wave (CW) mode

A wider coagulation zone for the indications that require it: the practitioner selects the pulse regime suited to each procedure.

  • 11 preset treatment modes

Validated medical presets, from gentle resurfacing to deep treatment, with full parameter control to personalize every protocol.

Real-life cases

When does this laser make the difference?

A few real-life situations seen at the practice, and what the CO2 laser can do about them:

  • « My teenage acne is long gone, but the pits and marks still show in the light. »

The deep mode of the fractional scanner (up to 700 microns) restarts collagen production inside the depressions: acne scars gradually fill in, session after session.

  • « My C-section (or surgery) scar bothers me every time I look at myself. »

The fractional CO2 laser reworks the texture and suppleness of the scar, including surgical ones. The protocol is adapted to its age and location.

  • « My skin has lost its firmness, its texture is uneven, makeup no longer sits the same. »

Fractional resurfacing regenerates the skin in depth: firmness, texture and radiance improve over the weeks as collagen rebuilds.

  • « Deep wrinkles have settled in around my mouth and eyes. »

The deep mode precisely targets these expression areas: the skin tightens and wrinkles soften, with a gradual, natural result.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

It is a fractional CO2 medical laser, CE-marked and FDA-cleared. It works deep in the skin to stimulate renewal, which makes it particularly well suited to skin rejuvenation and scar treatment.

Yes, the Lumenis AcuPulse is used to improve the appearance of scars, including surgical ones. The protocol is determined by Dr Mergui according to the age, depth and location of the scar.

Since the CO2 laser works deeper, redness and sensitivity may persist for a few days depending on the intensity. The SuperPulse technology limits heat diffusion to neighbouring tissue, which improves recovery. Dr Mergui gives you preparation and aftercare instructions during the consultation.

SuperPulse is Lumenis' pulse technology: high peak power delivered in very short pulses, capable of penetrating up to 1 mm in a single pulse. The energy vaporizes the targeted tissue while limiting heating of neighbouring tissue, for better comfort and reduced downtime.

The AcuScan120 fractional scanner offers a superficial mode (150 to 200 microns) that works on texture and radiance, and a deep mode (up to 700 microns) that targets scars and marked wrinkles. Dr Mergui chooses the mode, or their combination, according to your indication.

All procedures are performed by Dr Dylan Mergui in person, in Tel Aviv, after an assessment consultation.
